What a fantastic weekend we spent at Kaipara Flats at the AGM FLY IN. We had an impressive 14 Tiger Moths in attendance along with many other vintage and GA aircraft. Thank you to everyone for your attendance and help with this weekend and a big thank you to the Rodney Aero Club who hosted us so fabulously.
Our next event on the calendar is Warbirds Over Wanaka at Easter. The Tiger Moths and Chipmunks will be taking part in the weekend Airshow with group and individual flying displays.
But before that we have an exciting opportunity to enjoy a fantastic documentary on the rebuild project of Vaughn Davis’s Chipmunk. This will be held at NZ Warbirds No.2 Hangar at Ardmore this Sunday at 3pm. This is a fundraising event for Warbirds, but TMC members are being offered a discounted price for this event at $20 ($40 for the public). This will be a ticketed event so if you are interested in coming along, please use the booking link. It’s a great production. The date of 23 May 2026 is booked at Te Kowhai Airfield. It will be a friendly informal one day celebration with as many Chipmunks there as there can be and supported by as many Tigers as can turn out along with our usual other friends that make up the TMC ranks. Please spread the word and make sure everyone with an interest in a Chippie knows about the day. Get your aircraft out there.
There will also be a Q&A with Stan and Vaughn Davis after that. And following on from that, the club is promoting a celebration of 80 years of the Chipmunk on the 23rd of May at a lovely small airfield soon to be confirmed. Planning has just started with our new TMC committee member Peter McVinnie taking the lead. We are asking anyone interested in helping with this great occasion and of course anyone with an interest in a Chippie to contact the TMC by email in the first instance and we can get you all talking together. Sooner the better. It’s another club milestone. Spread the word outside the club as well.

The documentary features Stan Smith quite a lot, so should be of interest to members just for that!
